What the Pho?
Don’t let the sign fool you. It says Joy Pho, but it’s actually called Pho PQ (owner said he it costs too much to pay for a new sign). Pho PQ is one of my favorite places in Lakewood to grab a quick bite to eat. This building has had several different entrepreneurs over the years plying the neighborhood with varying degrees of cuisine. Its latest master is by far the most eccentric of the bunch. We go there not only because the food is good, but mainly because of the atmosphere. The owner/operator always greets us with a smile and a warm hello. When he takes our order, he always busts our chops (in a playful way). We look forward to the verbal jiu-jitsu almost as much as the pho and bun dishes. After we pay and say our goodbyes, he always says “see you tomorrow”. A warm, and unusual way to leave a lasting impression from our experience there.
Helpings are always plentiful and the food is served piping hot (which is how Vietnamese soup SHOULD be served). Their selection of Asian cuisine is admirable and includes dishes from Vietnam (Pho & Bun), Thailand (Phad Thai), Japan (tempura), China (Chow Mein )and many other exotic locales. Our personal favorites and perennial choices are the Pho, Phad Thai and spring rolls. If you are in the mood for a sandwich, you DEFINITELY need to try the Vietnamese Pork Sandwich they offer. It is out of this world. Be careful though, the jalapeno pepper they put in there will bring a tear to your eye!
I had Bun (Vietnamese Salad) today for lunch – very YUMMY
