Blue Island Sushi & Roll

Blue Island Sushi, nestled in between Jimmy Mac’s Roadhouse and 99 Bottles Beer Store (mmmmm…did you say ‘Beer’?) in Federal Way is home to a conveyor-belt style sushi restaurant. The inside is airy with lots of non-intrusive background noise to keep your mind busy as you enjoy their selection of tasty California-Style Sushi. They have an amazing amount of rolls. The menu is a matter of what-you-see-is-what-you-get on the conveyor belt, although sushi, salads and udon soups can be made to order. Dishes are color-coded on a pricing scale from $1.50 to $3.50 per two to four piece portions. And ordering up something not seen on the belt is as easy as looking up at one of the wait staff.

The food is always fresh and inexpensive (as far as sushi restaurants go) and the warm Japanese greeting from the host/hostess at the front door always sets the right mood for some speedy grubbing on some delicious Japanese food. If you do not like the closeness of sitting elbow-to-elbow with strangers, be sure to request a booth as it is difficult to have an intimate dinner with friends when the stranger next to you can comment on the smell of your deodorant.

Their bar is modern and inviting with a wide selection of Asian beers and liquors available to imbibe. Be sure to sip on some rice wine (saki) while eating to enjoy the true Japanese dining experience. The casual ambiance lends perfectly to a quick/casual lunch or dinner with friends or family and is kid-friendly. This is my daughter Emily’s favorite sushi restaurant!

Plus, when you’re done, you can stop by 99 Bottles and pick up some choice micro-brews. But THAT review will have to wait for another week…
